Faltenwurf (Fold)
V2A wire mesh, H 1300 x W 540 x D 200cm
1st place in the art competition “The Cloud” for St. Maria Church, Stuttgart
From the jury's statement: “The jury chose Andrea Knobloch's work ”Einlassung" because the sculpture, with its expansive gesture in the crossing, sets a strong accent in St. Maria. Suspended from the ceiling like a billowing drapery, the wire mesh sculpture remains airy and transparent despite its size of 13 meters. Its lucid materiality offers the incoming light opportunities for reflection that inspire viewers to ever new impressions. No visitor to the church can escape the self-assured presence of the work, which occupies the entire crossing like a baroque veil."

3rd prize in the open, two-phase art-in-architecture competition for the new European Center for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts, art location 1, entrance area / outdoor space
Outside the secure campus area, a strange, oddly bent, technoid formation appears. Is it a crashed satellite sail or a tin roof blown away by the storm? The high-flying Icarus—who, according to legend, fell into the sea because he underestimated the power of the sun, which melted his wax wings—is the namesake of the design. In ensemble with the rising EZMW high-rise, it points to the ultimately uncontrollable power of the elements, the prediction of which is the task of the center.

1st prize in the Klassik Stiftung Weimar art competition for the new entrance area in Weimar City Palace
A relief carved into the plaster runs across one side wall, as if dust stirred up by the beating wings of the “angel of history” had been driven into it with unbridled force. According to Walter Benjamin, this angel is constantly driven toward an unknown future by the storm of progress and prevented from healing past devastation. The relief “Im Sturm” draws visitors to the castle into the building, which has been destroyed many times but always rebuilt.

2nd prize in the art and architecture competition "Renovation and conversion of the Villa Liegnitz in Potsdam"
H 4,05 x W 4,87m
The south wall of the reception room of Villa Liegnitz is entirely taken up by the light blue tones of a cloudless sky. Only the brown-reddish-dark stains and scratches disturb the idyll and refer to its problematic past as the last residence of the Hohenzollern heir to the throne, Prince August-Wilhelm, a partisan of the National Socialists: the sky over Germany is and remains the “grave in the clouds” that Paul Celan speaks of in his Todesfuge. "Image Interference” warns against deceptive certainties and turns against forgetting.

Drop Sculpture, cast aluminum
H 2,12 x W 3,40 x D 2,06m
A shimmering metallic object is stranded on the forecourt of the HZB. The hollow body appears to be stretched to the limits of its capacity. Isolated rays of light penetrate through cracks and holes, forming a micro-universe of small points of light in the vague darkness of its interior. "Foreign Matter" symbolises man's insatiable thirst for knowledge. While he tries to grasp infinity, he remains a mystery to himself and his innermost being a world that is far from being fully illuminated.

On the left, a trail of shimmering red tones runs across the bare concrete of the rear wall surface. Right next to it, a watery substance oozes out of the wall. Opposite, a crystal-clear elixir has accumulated like a drop. The design “Eau de Vie” picks up on the phrase “blood, sweat and tears”, which reflects the price of freedom and self-determination. All three terms refer to vulnerability, effort and suffering, but also stand for vitality, energy and empathy. Placed in the canteen of the ministry, the miracle of human existence is set in relation to the profanity of its fundamental conditionality: food intake.
